Treatment strategies for patients of all ages and with various motor challenges. 3. To identify the major problem when abnormal control is observed. 4. Strategies to prevent abnormal development from becoming the dominant pattern.
2. Analyze movement patterns of various children observed in video clips. 3. Determine which unstable surfaces they can create in their work setting. 4. Develop a variety of plans about when to push vs. back away from activities if clients object.
Barbara is a graduate of Indiana University and lives in Wisconsin. She has treated in a variety of settings including out patient rehabilitation center, hospitals and school settings. She currently works at an outpatient pediatric therapy center treating children ranging in age form newborn to young adult. Barbara has contributed an appendix to the book IMPROVING UPPER BODY CONTROL -AN APPROACH TO ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF TONAL DYSFUNCTION, 2 sections to PARENT ARTICLES- FOR EARLY INTERVENTION, and written a book on treatment using the ball called: FACILITATING DEVELOPMENT AND SENSORIMOTOR FUNCTION- TREATMENT WITH THE BALL. Barbara has produced 15 educational DVD’s on treatment and in 2008 completed work on a new book titled, HEADS UP ON HYPOTONIA. Language: ENGLISH
Course Schedule8:00-8:30 Continental Breakfast 8:30-10:30 Video analysis: Patients using dynamic surfaces to promote three dimensional dynamic holding in the trunk. 10:30-10:45 Break 10:45-12:00 Video analysis: Patients using dynamic surfaces to promote shoulder girdle stability and inhibit collapse of upper body onto lower body through UE fixing compensations. 12:00-1:30 Lunch (On your own) 1:30-2:30 Treatment demonstration or continue DVD of treatment strategies 2:30-3:30 Video analysis: Patients using dynamic surfaces to promote hip stability and lower extremity alignment for weight bearing and functional vertical control. 3:30-3:45 Break 3:45-5:00 Video analysis: Patients using dynamic surfaces to promote ankle/foot dynamic stability/mobility for functional control. 5:00 End
